Once we finished our fantastic breakfast of toast and coffee at the hotel we were treated to a wild ride in a beat up mini van to John O'Grouts. We broke a spring in the guys van on the way.

It was cold - and the wind was crazy. There was almost a constant drizzle during our stay in the highlands. Apparently that's pretty much the norm. The tour guide told us that there's only about a 15degree difference in temperature between mid summer and mid winter. However, during the summer there's only three hours of dark - during the winter there's only three hours of daylight. I don't know how they function! Above left: Kris by the last house in Scotland. Our tour of Ornkey started by boarding a ferry at John O'Grouts. Did I say it was cold?
From the ferry we boarded a bus to be taken around Orkney. Our driver/tour guide was a comical guy who's accent was so thick that half the time we couldn't understand him.
